Dementia is a general term for severe loss of memory, language, problem-solving, and other thinking abilities that interfere with daily life. The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease. Dementia is caused by damage to brain cells. This damage interferes with the ability of brain cells to communicate with each other affecting thinking, behavior, and feelings.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that affects how a person thinks, acts, expresses emotions, perceives reality, and interacts with others. Though not as common as other mental disorders, schizophrenia can be the most chronic and disabling.

Contrary to popular belief, schizophrenia is not a split or multiple personality. Schizophrenia involves a psychosis, a type of mental illness in which a person can’t tell what’s real from what’s imagined.
